Alot of Newegg worshippers will tell you Asus is the best because Newgg promotes them. Other than their overclocking utility, asus is just plain awful. I had the Asus A8N SLI motherboard back in the day and it was just awful.

I have two similar setups.
1. HP ECS MCP61P AM2 mobo with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ (2712MHz x 2) with 5GB PC2-6400 Samsung memory.
The other PC is:
1. Asus M3A76-CM mobo w/ AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ w/ 3GB PC2-5300 DDR2-667Mhz memory.
You would thing the 2nd computer would be significantly slower. in, fact, just the opposite occurs. The asus with less RAM and slower RAM at that, is much better regarding memory. It consistently dominates the ECS in all memory benchmarks. The ECS is worse than the Asus regarding memory but it does perform a very small amount better in CPU benchmarks.
