Weird approach. I look forward to trying out Norton 2010

So AVG is supposedly ranked No 1 that hasn't been my experience at all. I have used AVG for the past 4 years and watched it steadily become more gimmicky and resource heavy. V 8.0 - 8.5 came with numerous problems particularly with updating and database errors. The most recent being the last few days when V 8.5 basically stopped working the databases required updating and couldnt be updated and various components became inactive. AVG's response to my request for a*sistance was to uninstall V8.5 and install V9.0. Easier said than done /I spent in excess of 16 hours trying to uninstall V8.5 and install V.90. When I finally had it sorted I discovered that in the process of doing so it had wiped my Email Inbox (Mozilla Thunderbird) It took me another 3 hours to resolve that issue thanks to a little help from various posts on the net I was able to restore it. I received no a*sistance from AVG Technical Support on these issues at all other than being told to install V9.0. The support is just not good enough and the product has become like others available top heavy on no essentials. I couldn't recommend it.

Well, I actually work in I.T. and I can say HANDS DOWN that AVG 9 is what we install for BANKS, LAW ENFORCEMENT, and other high profile clients. We wouldn't be installing it if it didn't earn our trust back a couple of years ago. AVG's detection rate is one of the highest in the industry. To all the Nay-sayer's out there that swear AVG is bloated, well then they obviously haven't used it in a couple of editions, or their hardware must be INCREDIBLY slow or outdated. I've seen them all in action. I like AVG, Kaspersky, and NOD32. To everyone that says AVG had poor detection rates: which version were you using?! Must have been the free version. AVG's paid solution ROCKS! The Link-scanner feature for browsers, coupled with the indexed scan (by md5 sum) makes AVG very light-weight, very fast, and very proactive versus reactive. If your computer runs like crap after installing AVG, then trust me, there's more wrong with your computer. As an ANTI-VIRUS it's awesome. For anti-spyware (unless you are using the paid edtion), look else-where.

Today at least, try Panda Cloud (I think it's at Vers. 1.4) I have some systems using it and it's suprisingly light, fast and thorough in its' scanning both real-time and full disk. Try it, I think you'll like it. But don't be complacent. It will probably be pa*sed by Avast! in the next month or so. AVG will catch up too. Don't be lulled into thinking that whatever AV software you have will always be the best. (I'm sure it was best at one time). Keep an open mind and always check your options.

Really? AVG in first? I've used AVG and I REALLY dislike it. I'm going for AVAST! and Kaspersky for top. By the way how many hate comments are there? IDK. In my history on using the computer so far I've tried on Avast,Avira,AVG,Ikarus,Kaspersky,Norton. Norton really isn't an anti-virus, unless cookies are going to kill my PC and my 5 dormant trojans in a zip aren't there, then it's bad. Doesn't even support 2+ AVs in the same PC. BS. AVG for me was a surprise. I had heard it was good: no, just because most people use it unknowing of other options doesn't mean it's good. It's a simple, easy-going basic AV. Detects virus at a normal rate, silent in the background, just that... It doesn't block viruses, just scans. Also doesn't support two AVs AVAST! Is the best S*IELD in my opinion, blocks pretty much everything from malicious sites and my torrents. Pretty easy-going scans that are customizable with rootkit scanner, and supports other AVs Props. Avira for me is the scanner (Yes, I use two AVs: scanner and s*ield). It's slower than what you expect, not many options, but it well does the job. Doesn't support in its factory configurations other AVs, but taking fifteen minutes time got smooth. I use the free version because AVAST! does the s*ielding already. Kaspersky I have used both the AV as the web client AV. Pros: it's got a good Virus database, scans fast. Cons: Not free, not the BEST s*ield. I'd like it as a scanner. Doesn't tolerate other AVs. Ikarus isn't even a known AV: it's probably underground. I recommend this to the gamer/warez community because you got some things that Ikarus detects unlike other programs. Seems good, until you get so many false positives. Hates my other two AVs Actually, ALL the AVs I used are free except AVAST! as my s*ield, so this mayn't be 100% accurate. I support the idea of S*IELD/SCANNER

I think kaspersky is the best ........the only problem eith it is it will delete files that has tendency to act as adware even though its not one...it gives the trojan.heur.win32.generic....if the virus comes like that good guess is that kaspersky dont know wat it is.....unless u r it proff ho need to perform programs or sumthing...kaspersky is good....i am normal user just browsing net for time pa*s or job related issues ....it works fine.....

Well being in IT I have tried several AV apps over the many years and it is a rollercoaster ride. What I can say is that Norton is easily at the bottom of the list and never would I recommend it to anyone. At the company we are forced into using McAfee on our 8000+ PC's and it does ok but it has a lot of bloat to it. So if your hardware isnt old, then McAfee will do ok but there are better choices out there. For me personally the nod goes to Kaspersky

Well Trying Out All The Antivirus Softwares All I can say is That AVAST INTERNET SECURITY is The Bestest Best Antivirus Software In The World.. Well Being A Programmer I Say This And Thats True Coz Avast Provides The Best Safety For PC's MAC's,. SO If Anyone Is Confused B/N Which One To Choose I'll Recommend ""AVAST INTERNET SECURITY"" only... Never Go For AVG It SLows DOwn Ur System, And Lacks In Finding Out Malwares In Ur SYstems/Devices.... EAST or WEST AVAST is the BEST.

McAfee is best. Symantec and Kaspersky are also good. but all other are fake they just steal from them. McAfee, Norton are having Bulky customers, and we know how Virus definition Updates are made?...it is made through customers' problems of new viruses. so AV company can make Update by its own if they have lot customers. so real updates makers are just 3 in the world, 1 McAfee, 2 Norton, 3 Kaspersky. all of rest just makes av setups and adds some other facilities that can fool the customers...but main thing of virus updates is totally stolen from these 3 companies. I really appreciate Mili, Netgamero and Champu. I think u all are having deep knowledge about this.. so guys just check market reputation of AV and use. and i dont recommend any one to use Quick Heal and Net Protector(NP AV) because they are Virus. they generates Viruses in Our PC and make us fool by detecting those fake viruses...so dont even think of these two AVs. Use Only McAfee, Symantec or Kaspersky. all three are having powerful Tow Way firewall besides the best AV solution. firewall is also as much recommended as AV. so guys now i am sure you totally understood what AVs are and what is the important things in AV..!! Search the net and understand deeply this topic, you will automatically understand. Thnx

Avast and Kaspersky are the best. Avast - Great, have gotten no viruses with it, have had it for 2 years. Kaspersky - Slightly better than Avast but also more expensive. AVG is overprotective, it trys to hard. Symantec - Not bad, No false positives but it takes forever to scan and there is a couple that go through. McAfee - Piece of crap. Very resource heavy and lots of things go past it. Not good. NOT RECCOMMENDED!! Norton - Ok, nothing special, not resource heavy. Not worth it as Avast comes about same price with more protection and more customization. Not sure about Panda and Nod32. Haven't used either. I've heard great things about Nod32. Wouldn't disrecommend them or recommend them. Overall, Avast and Kaspersky are the best.

Kaspersky Internet Security versions is the only all round protection I highly recommend to my family and friends but never to customers through my business as it stops computer work and for cost of 14.5 cents a day its the best value for elite protection of your system - I have tested av software over the years and Kaspersky still leads the way when sscanning through over 2500 mixed types of virus files, Avg comes up the worst in testing followed by Norton. the best for free av I recommend from my test results was free Anti-Vir but I say the best and I still do not recommend it to anyone, you get what you pay for and Kaspersky wins hands down. Hope people out there keep using them free av software programs -

My friend uses Norton and it slowdown his computer, beside wasting time when updating since it isnt user friendly. One day he made full scan and I asked him to send me some mp3 file by using a flash. When i pluge in the flash into my pc, I heard an alarm notifying me of 16types of viruses and other autoron virus including worms block by AVAST. I and my friend were surprise but we could not believe because some people say avast has false positive so we wanted to prove whether its true. We to the flash and plug it into a pc running MICROSOFT SECURITY ESSENTIAL and find out the same viruses detected. At that time my friend was upset and decided to uninstall Norton and install Avast and it manage to remove alot of viruses upto now his pc is running normally and we enjoy the peace of mind. so upto now i prefer AVAST and MICROSOFT ESSENTIAL as the best antivirus because the tests i tried on them as they appear the top among many. Its upto u to choose but its important to test many and choose the best one by yourself. I don't recomend Norton as an antivirus at all.

Quickheal is the best antivirus for both internet and home use, as it detects every kind of harmful threats and other malicious objects. So Quickheal is the best in the world. No other antivirus is better than Quickheal. Other antivirus software like Norton, AVG, Avast and Kaspersky are really very very slow and has extremely poor virus detection.

In the last few months i have tested, Sophos, Symantec 12.1, McAfee and Kaspersky. Sophos is easy to install and provideds a complete end point security, the only flaw is users can easily kill the processes if the system is not locked and access blocked apps/devices. McAfee - to many false/positives and you need a PHD to install this, plus it is resource hungry. Symantec Endpoint Security 12.1 - Has some very good features, however very complicated to setup, even the most simple configuration (update agents/removal of 3rd party AV), it also has a larger footprint. Kaspersky Security Center 9 - Easy to install and configure, small footprint, feature rich with web control, mail/web scanning, device control and Application control, it also picks up system vunrabilities and you can use it for patch management (for example pus*ing out Windows/Applicaiton updates). the only downside is if you have Windows 2003/2008 Data Center edition it has a different software. Support is also not very good. Overall Kaspersky is the best Endpoint solution available on the market with several features.

The virus database updates daily, small compact updates. Panda is resource friendly, which means my pc is still my own. And I download extensively, whenever a worm, trojan or virus is detected, Panda asks what to do (clean, quarantine or delete) Panda Internet Security Forever!
