It's official: avg is superior, panda antivirus is impeccable, nod32 is a good choice, avast is acceptable, kaspersky is ordinary, symantec is crap, not enough data for mcafee.
Comparing avast vs avg vs kaspersky vs mcafee vs nod32 vs panda antivirus vs symantec
hi guys,
im a IT professional and work for AVG and i really liked that you like our job but the truth is that we don't develop it all by ourselves. Well, there is a reason why McAfee and norton are called bad or not good. the real thing is that we steal from them

I had the same problem...my pc was infected while AVG was in operation. I bought Kaspersky 2009 and it worked very well except it will totally delete your folder when/if infected and the folder will not open unless you use the back way approach and the folder which will be hidden after K has dealt with it, will take up your memory space. Weird approach. I look forward to trying out Norton 2010

So AVG is supposedly ranked No 1 that hasn't been my experience at all. I have used AVG for the past 4 years and watched it steadily become more gimmicky and resource heavy. V 8.0 - 8.5 came with numerous problems particularly with updating and database errors.
The most recent being the last few days when V 8.5 basically stopped working the databases required updating and couldnt be updated and various components became inactive. AVG's response to my request for assistance was to uninstall V8.5 and install V9.0.
Easier said than done /I spent in excess of 16 hours trying to uninstall V8.5 and install V.90. When I finally had it sorted I discovered that in the process of doing so it had wiped my Email Inbox (Mozilla Thunderbird) It took me another 3 hours to resolve that issue thanks to a little help from various posts on the net I was able to restore it. I received no assistance from AVG Technical Support on these issues at all other than being told to install V9.0.
The support is just not good enough and the product has become like others available top heavy on no essentials.
I couldn't recommend it.

AVG is horrible. They say all of "It has this feature" and so on. Those features NEVER worked for me. So I tried other AV's -- Norton & Nod32 hated my computer, and then I tried Avast. It really gets the idea out when you get a virus, which is even toggle-able, which I like. Avast, is the best out there.

m friend i test almost all of anti virus and i know their weak and strong point :
AVG use too much pc resource and is not still userfriendly
bitdefender is fantastic but slowdown your internet and sometimes conflict with winxp , offline update I couldn't find
kaspersky almsot good in everything and the good part is that you can save its update for any recovery moment. almost light and very user friendly
ESET smart security , light, offline update easily but still lack of firewall and a perfect antispy
avira : as far I test it it was good , to be frank I havn't test it long time
panda , lack of perfect total security sometimes try to fix files that most of times it fails
mcafee, norton lets forget it
zone alarm extreme ,perfect but not very userfriendly
pccilin good with heavy update and sometime takes too much system resource specially when its scanning
my lastest test of avast came back to 5 years ago so my description won't help any more but it was good not perfect
G-data good ( very good and smart anti virus)but heavy and not very user fiendly
now I have kaspersky 2010 and I'm not going to change it

Well, I actually work in I.T. and I can say HANDS DOWN that AVG 9 is what we install for BANKS, LAW ENFORCEMENT, and other high profile clients. We wouldn't be installing it if it didn't earn our trust back a couple of years ago. AVG's detection rate is one of the highest in the industry. To all the Nay-sayer's out there that swear AVG is bloated, well then they obviously haven't used it in a couple of editions, or their hardware must be INCREDIBLY slow or outdated.
I've seen them all in action. I like AVG, Kaspersky, and NOD32. To everyone that says AVG had poor detection rates: which version were you using?! Must have been the free version. AVG's paid solution ROCKS!
The Link-scanner feature for browsers, coupled with the indexed scan (by md5 sum) makes AVG very light-weight, very fast, and very proactive versus reactive.
If your computer runs like crap after installing AVG, then trust me, there's more wrong with your computer. As an ANTI-VIRUS it's awesome. For anti-spyware (unless you are using the paid edtion), look else-where.

Try nod32, better than many recognisea and reputed ones.

Well, I used all of these antivirus except for Panda. I recommend AVG, Eset Nod32 and Kaspersky. My best choice is Kaspersky becouse it is fast, easy to use and protects your system smartly. Avast doesn't detect the deepest viruses so it is bad. McAfee is a good solution but it is too heavy and your pc is getting slower and slower. Finally, Norton has many disadvantages. As a result it is not a good antivirus. All in all, Kaspersky is the best!!!

I'm happy enough with it not to try others and possibly get burned. Hey, it's still a free country. use what works for you. I'm thankful for the work the developers of antivirus+ software do, they are the unspoken heroes behind the scenes keeping our systems working.
