Whilst that's a very harsh statement to make, it does hint at some accuracy, at least in terms of Billy to Foobar.
I have been a long time lover of Billy.exe, and have used it exclusively for music playback on my PC (and any other, through the use of a USB drive).
Things have been perfectly fine, pleasant high quality music playback, albeit from WMP ripped MP3s of my CD collection.
However, since getting into lossless formats only (WAV/FLAC/APE/WV), and working intently on music, and re-mastering purchased music, I have found that Billy's engine leaves a bit to be desired.
Using Foobar, I am able to play my music BIT PERFECT from EAC rips of my CD collection. The difference between these loss less files and the nasty mp3's, made worse by WMP's algorithms, is marked.
Sticking strictly to lossless formats, Billy simply doesn't have the capacity to resolve the punch and timing of the low end, and vocals are less coherent. It seems as if something is always a bit off with Billy. Foobar delivers perfectly.
